I have been working on so many projects at the moment that eventually i realised there is a time to stop and go hey! I think my website needs a little updating I am not going to go as far a to change the banner at the top of anything, not yet anyway, at the moment I still like that banner But I do think it is about time I updated the bio, about me, and the gallery and other stuff that sometimes gets neglected.
Oddly enough the thing that I am most happy with about the updates, is on the about me page I have now drawn a cartoon of me in my style to represent what I look like. I did debate this for ages, should I have a photo or should I have an illustration. There are arguments for each case, with a photo people can see what you look like and decide whether you look a nice and friendly person, but I am an Illustrator and as such I feel that a photograph would not be the right way to represent myself at this point. At this time I am more and more in love with art and comic books and i felt a comic book character of myself would show this, I have drawn myself in the clothes I most often wear when creating, a shirt to protect from the paint and shorts so that should any materials fall on my legs I won't ruin my trousers ( this has happpened a few times) It is not that I am a messy painter, but I often use things like paint and make up things that may ruin my clothes and my thought is better safe then sorry I am also never without a sketchbook near and this is why I am holding one in the image and I am wearing a badge saying I love paint, because no matter what other mediums I use and love, paint is always my favourate. And the people who have seen this cartoon do say that it looks like me, so until I find a photo that can convey this much about me in one shot I think I'd like to keep the cartoon me It was a bit odd to try and draw myself though as I never really gave much thought to what I looked like until I did this drawing

I feel I have kind of neglected this blog since I got another blog on word press at http://katintheattic.wordpress.com/ this one is constantly updated and even has photos and images on things I have been working on This is why I stopped writing on this one, because I thought that blog was better and it keeps it seperate from the website This was very neglectful of me and will hopefully not happen again.
Oh I have rearranged the galleries and tidyed them up and I am currently trying to make my website look even more spiffy. If you want to see images of my new projects including a costue of the Riddler from Arkham City and a Gory werewolf hand go to the above blog I'll be uploading the pictures shortly, should be ace
All the best

There are only so many ways I can say there are new images in the galleries and that is by saying this....there are new images in the galleries, well new ones in the 3D gallery of some masks and puppets that I made. The trouble is whenever I come to write a blog post I manage to forget everything that would be of interest to put and write about : )
I recently created the make up effects for a zombie photoshoot, unfortunately i am unable to put photos up yet as the photographer wants to use them for an exhibition and doesn't want them to be published before he does this, obviously! : ) i created something I hadn't created before for the shoot, ribs, this was fun and made me realise how much my make up effects are just glue and latex and random things, the photographer seemed very pleased with them and even kept them as a souvenir, I must be honest I was slightly dismayed at this as I was quite pleased with them and really wanted them myself, but I am running out of room with all the puppets and 3D work I do so he probably did me a favour, and I was just happy he liked them : ) I loved doing the shoot though I did feel sorry for the zombie in the cold in just a shirt thats ripped and some ribs for warmth.
My comic is going well i have written issue 3 and 4 and have started issue 5 ( when i say started i mean i have written a few begginings several times and screwed them up and thrown them in the bin : )
Oh and I came up with a solution to carrying a heavy portfolio around conventions, i got a mini photo book made at snapfish.co.uk its small and conveniant for carrying and will show people my work : ) sorted! : )
Thats all I can think of to report at the moment : )

Okay so I haven't posted a new entry in a while eep! am sorry I have been trying to catch up on art and also we have managed to occumilate a lot of snow here for britain and so doing art has also been interspersed with digging ourselves out of snow drifts.
Actually this is gonna sound slightly bizzarre but the snow has meant that I haven't actually got more done on my comic then I have done in a while as it has forced me to stay in and work on it, interspersed with lots of cups of tea. The art for issue two is complete and mostly scanned in and put toghether and I am nearly ready to put the words on. Isssue 3 is nearly ready to be planned out and drawn, and i have come up with a rather bizzarre ending, but then again the first story for my detective agency revolves around fighting a building so you know the way to get rid of it was always going to be a bit nuts. But no! they do not use a giant wrecking ball, though that would be cool
I have also created a website for the comic itself which when it is finished should be a place where you can look at stuff to do with the comic and have lots of random extras and of course buy it if you want to. Though it may be longer then anticipated as i insist on doing it myself but i am not a website designer and things keep going worng a little bit, but i am hopeful and I think it is going to look good when i am finished

I havent posted in ages but if it makes you feel any better i havent posted on my random blog either in ages. Which if you fancy reading it it is here...http://katintheattic.wordpress.com/. This is somewhere where i thought i would use to vent my need to write randomness and although it is not art based i thought it would be nice to join the blogging scene and join the trend.
okay updates....I am currently fighting to make things out of latex 3D wise and losing as i have managed to knock the latex all over twice now. Whose betting there will be a third lol. I am also making a mummy type thing for my friends costume for a book signing by Paul Magyrs in whitby at the goth weekend, I think he wanted the most realistic and random costume he could manage to get so i got roped in to helping him. Pictures of these creations will gradually seep into the gallery so keep a look out, should be interesting.
I have painted a portrait of a friend and her baby and that turned out really well so once i have got a good photo that will be in the gallery, this was the first time i have used oils properly so i was quite pleased and it alos led to someone else asking me to do them a painting, which is fantastic. Except what with all the 3D work i am doing there was a little bit of reaction with the oil paints that turned the paint on the faces green whoops! its all good though should be able to sort it out, if not i'll start again.
On the comic front what with other projects this has had to be put on the back burner, but i have translated it all to black and white so it should be all finished soon.
So yeh that is the updates so far

Most Illustrators and artists have a fond love of the written word mainly because Illustration works with words to help tell the story that the words are creating. My advice to any Illustration student is to ( if you don't already :)) read a lot, novels, comics, picture books and magazines, any genre and every genre to inspire you in your work and see how the images work with the words. This is just my personal opinion as I love books and words and picture and how they work toghether and so I try to get everyone to read a lot . Granted my little cousin did tell me off recently because I always buy her books, I mean it was a classic, but she did tell me that no matter the fact it is treasure Island, children do not like books... oh she said and girls do not usually like pirates. I decided that maybe I should remember that not everyone loves books as much as me.
Anyway, after that ramble, for those of you who do love words and reading, my friend who is a writer has just started his own blog, with essays, stories and photos and other such randomness, so i urge you to have a look and read his work. http://mattjcresswell.wordpress.com/ as he is quite talented with the written word.
Anyway that is my news for the day, the Illustrations for the second Issue of the comic book are coming on well, at least to em they are.
Hope everyone is doing well whatever your endeavers are

I have just put some new images in my gallery for people to peruse at there liesure and see if they like them, including some new 3D work, one of which is special effects gore so as it says on the home page don't have a look if that sort of thing scares you as I dont want anyone getting upset by the images in my gallery as they are supposed to be interesting not scary. There are also some new ones in the General illustration gallery for you to look at if you don't like special effects so enjoy!
Now I am going to carry on drawing all day, I may stop to eat sometimes though : )

Hope everyone is getting chance to enjoy the sun and isn't working themselves too hard.
Some ineteresting notifications ( well I find them interesting feel free to not find them as interesting I have been working on my make up techniques for theatre and film recently in between artwork and have been wondering whether i should put them up on the website to view as I think some people find them a little freakey, I decided yes I will put them up as although they are not part of my Illustration work they are also a big part of what i like to do. Ever since I was a child I have helped my parents when they have been doing face painting and make up for plays and fetes and have always loved to do that sort of thing. I love experimenting with the make up techniques as it is a totally different way of working and is a good break from traditional illustration.
By doing this I got a friend interested and he asked me to make him some puppets for his latest theatre project, Reaper and Daughter, he wanted a puppet which was comical, cute, old and scary, so not a hard brief then : ) I will be putting up the finished puppet in the 3D gallery section, he says he really loves it and now and can't wait to put the show on even more, so brilliant news there : )
I have started to Illustrate the second Issue of my comic book inbetween other projects but already it is taking a good shape and Issue 3 is finished in writing and ready to Illustrate also. A project which took longer then expected as I couldn't figure out what the ending should be, which is why I left it for a while, went through it and voila! everything just fell into place.
I am also about to begin a stop motion project, and I have been doing some tattoo designs, so watch the gallery for more Illustrations and interesting art in the next few weeks.
